During the past year WELB library service has created a special room to house all material relating to Omagh Bomb. For the past number of years staff in Omagh library have been collecting and digitising material which has now developed into a website. The web address is www.omagharchive.co.uk which has a key word searchable database.
The archive room holds over 10,000 newspaper articles, 15,000 emails 818 books of condolence, 52 videos, nearly 3000 floral tribute cards, 1000 sympathy cards, 2000 letters, patchwork quilts and cushions, pictures and other individual items.
It is housed in an area which has special environmental conditions in order to preserve all original material.
We have organised a week where we invite anyone interested in visiting the archive to come along to Omagh library – available from Saturday 3rd May until Saturday 10th May when staff will be available to give a tour.
Although we have specified a particular week the archive is available by appointment at any time the library is open.
We are very keen to add to our collection – so if anyone has any items which they wish to donate to the archive we will be very happy to accept. In the past we have received letters, cards etc and other artefacts form the general public, council, churches.
It is now a part of Omagh’s history and something which the library service has a duty to record, preserve and allow access to. So although it happened nearly 10 years ago we continue to add to the collection on a regular basis
If you have any queries about donation of material please contact either Evelyn Johns or Margaret Cummings at Omagh library or email to info@omagharchive,co.uk
