The growing number of choral societies in Northern Ireland have received a boost with the launching of ‘The Choral Collection’ at Belfast Central Library.
The Choral Collection contains hundreds of scores of traditional and modern pieces and is now available for loan free to members of any public library in Northern Ireland.
Speaking at the launch of The Choral Collection, Chief Librarian Katherine McCloskey said:
“Historically we have had to get multiple copies of choral works from other libraries throughout the UK, when sourcing scores for societies.
“However, with this new service, we can now provide copies of all the well-known and best loved scores from our own collection. This will mean a considerable reduction in the amount of time taken to satisfy a request and greatly improve the service for societies.”
Music librarian Paula Gibson believes the service will be greatly appreciated by choral groups.
“There is an increasing interest in choral singing in Northern Ireland, not just in the traditional works such as Handel’s Messiah, but more modern pieces as well, such as Karl Jenkins’ Adiemus. I am confident this innovative service will be well used by music societies.”
If you would like further information on borrowing any of our scores or on how to join the library contact the Music Library on 02890 509150 or call into Belfast Central Library, Royal Avenue, where staff will be delighted to tell you more about the new service.
