The Hullabaloo Theatre Company is just one of the many attractions that will be visiting Belfast’s libraries over the summer, as branches across the city once again host a range of fun events for children throughout the summer holidays - and it’s all free of charge!
From drama workshops and football workshops to story sessions, rhyme sessions and themed arts and crafts, Belfast’s libraries will offer something for everyone, according to Chief Librarian Katherine McCloskey.
“There is a lot going on in libraries across the city throughout July and August and we are keen to encourage as many children as possible to become involved. The Hullabaloo Theatre Company will visit some of our branches and will bring alive tales using puppets and props,” said Katherine.
“We also have Fra Gunn, local writer, actor, storyteller and football fanatic who will be coming to several branches to help children write raps, poems and stories about their favourite football team.
“Meanwhile this year’s reading challenge will encourage children aged five to 15 to explore new and adventurous reading. To complete the challenge kids must read six different books. For each book returned they will receive a stamp on a loyalty card. A completed loyalty card will result in a certificate and entry into a prize draw.
“Also children under the age of five can join the Bookstart Book Crawl and receive a sticker for each library visit. They can then exchange four stickers for a certificate. All children who are due to start P1 in September will also receive a Bookstart Treasure Chest.”
“Events for adults include an exhibition in Central Library which celebrates the life and works of the artist John Vinycomb. Also on display in Central will be an exhibition documenting the construction and sinking of the Titanic.”
