In celebration of Silver Surfers’ Day on Friday 23th May 08, Belfast Public Libraries are offering free internet taster sessions for the over 50’s.
Volunteers from Business in the Community will be visiting libraries across Belfast and will be explaining basic internet skills and the setting up of email accounts.
Katherine McCloskey, Chief Librarian of Belfast Public Libraries said:
‘These taster sessions are a fun, free and friendly way for the over 50’s to have a truly hands on look at computers and the internet. Whether a complete beginner, lacking in confidence, or simply wanting computer experience, people will learn something new. They will then be able to practise their skills on the library computers, with volunteers on hand to help out. 229 surfers took part in last years event and we are hoping that there will be even more this year.
"We are never too old to learn new skills and the internet has so much information on it to suit all interests. Past silver surfers have used their new found skills to book holidays and others have learnt to use email and keep in touch with family and friends across the world. Whatever their interests, these sessions will help kick of their surfing skills.
Pre-booking is recommended for these sessions and it’s easy to do. Anyone who is interested in taking part should just phone or drop into any of the libraries mentioned below.
