‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ takes you on a journey with a nine year old boy called Bruno and sooner or later you arrive with Bruno at a fence.
Fences like this exist all over the world and are not always visible.
Have you ever faced a fence or felt excluded and how did you deal with this? Northern Ireland Libraries are inviting you to take part in this ONE BOOK initiative by writing your story in no more than 1000 words. This competition is being judged at a regional level (in each Education and Library Board) and then at Northern Ireland level by panels of judges drawn from library and education staff and local literary figures. There are three categories for entries- under 14 years; 14-18 years and over 18 years. Closing Date for entries is 29TH FEBRUARY 2008.
Northern Ireland’s winning entries will be published in VERBAL magazine and there will also be prizes (£20 book tokens) for each category winner at local level and £100 tokens for each regional category winner.
Entry forms and competition guidelines can be found here.
