All nursing and residential homes can receive a collection of books, which is exchanged on a regular basis. The material supplied supports the activities going on in the centre; for example easy reading material for people with learning disabilities or stories and pictorial material for reminiscence work. If the collection does not meet your centre’s need, we can request books for you.
Alternatively, some residential homes can receive regular visits from a mobile library rather than these collections.
The Collections
A wide range of books is available and will usually include large print books.
Magnifying aids can be loaned to library users, who can no longer manage with large print alone. There is also a range of tape services including music cassettes and talking books.
Talking Books
The library can arrange for visually impaired people to join the Royal National Institute for the Blind Talking Book Service. Members have access to a library of some 10,000 titles to suit a variety of tastes and they receive the books they request by free post.
