Disability Users

Access to Community and Mobile libraries. Almost all branch and mobile libraries provide access for wheelchair users.

Please view the list of services and facilities available in our branch and mobile libraries to confirm if wheelchair access is available.
 
Adaptive Technology Equipment

A range of adaptive technology equipment is available to help disabled users make use of the computer facilities.  Every branch library has at least one computer with –

• Touch screen
  
  
• Speech and magnification software
  
  
• Big Key keyboard
  
  
• Children’s keyboard
  
  
• Large trackerball

While it is not essential to book this equipment it may be advisable to do so to avoid disappointment.

Each of the five library services also have –

• 3 Braille readers (40 key)
  
  
• 1 Braille reader (70 key)
  
  
• 1 Braille embosser (printer)
  
  
• 2 CCTV stand alone electronic magnifiers
  
  
• 2 CCTV PC attachment electronic magnifiers

While the Braille readers and CCTV magnifiers will normally be available in the larger libraries, they are portable and can be made available in any library.  It is essential to book this equipment.  You may book this equipment by contacting your local library.
